Regular tree pruning can help keep your existing trees healthy, safe and attractive. This kind of tree maintenance can also prevent issues such as light reduction and compromised structures that can come when trees become overgrown.
We are fully qualified and insured arborists offering professional and cost-effective tree trimming services across North and West Cumbria. All shapes and sizes of trees can be serviced, from the smallest fruit tree to large oaks and conifers.
"Absolutely spot on service. Turned up when they said they would, worked hard all day and left everything tidy afterwards. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Proper professional job from start to finish and fairly priced too."

Cost will depend on number and size of trees, what kind of pruning is needed, and how complicated the job is. Our first visit to assess the work is completely free and we will give you a quote before starting any work. We pride ourselves on providing fair and reasonable prices for all of our tree work.
The type of pruning your trees require will depend on what you want to achieve. Each requires an expert eye and comprehensive understanding of trees to ensure proper trimming that retains the health and viability of the plant whilst making it smaller and/or more compact.
During an initial visit we will discuss the options that are best for you, but below are some of the most common types of tree reduction we carry out.
When you need it: If access under the tree is difficult, or branches risk getting in the way of things like cars and signs. Crown raising can also help improve lighting, visibility and health.
What it is: Crown raising, also known as crown lifting, involves selectively pruning the lower branches to create a more open canopy. This practice not only enhances the visual appeal of the tree by giving it a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing shape, but it also mitigates potential risks associated with low-hanging branches. By lifting the canopy, the likelihood of damage to nearby structures or vehicles from branches is minimised.
As well as aesthetic and safety considerations, crown raising allows for better air circulation within the tree. That means that overall tree health can be improved through reducing disease risk and promoting optimal growth conditions.
When you need it: When trees are blocking too much light, or are at risk of becoming (or are already) straggly or unhealthy. Crown thinning can also encourage understory plant growth and biodiversity.
What it is: Thinning a tree’s crown involves carefully pruning branches and foliage to reduce the overall density of the tree. It is often done on individual trees that have become “heavy”, or on full canopies that have become overly dense.
Crown thinning has many benefits, including:
When you need it: When a tree has gotten too big for its location or has branches that are dangerous or could become dangerous.
What it is: A crown reduction makes the canopy of the tree smaller in height, width and denseness. Reducing trees in this way requires a careful process so that the right branches are removed from the right places. The goal is to reduce the tree’s overall dimensions without compromising its intrinsic form and stability.
Expertly completed crown reductions can make the tree look more attractive, reduce risk of danger from overgrown or damaged branches, and improve the tree’s health. It can also stimulate new growth and increase longevity and vitality.
When you need it: Annually or every couple of years to maintain your tree’s health, reduce the risk of disease, and ensure your trees look their best.
What it is: Maintenance pruning is carried out on trees every year or every couple of years. It is especially important in younger and actively growing trees to maintain their shape and help them grow strongly and healthily. During a routine pruning session, we will inspect the tree closely before advising and making relevant cuts. These could be to help maintain an attractive shape, remove crossing branches that could encourage disease, or to remove dead or diseased branches and foliage.
When you get in touch, we will arrange a date to come and inspect your trees, advise on the best reduction service, and then provide a quote. If you choose to go ahead, we will then agree dates for the work to be carried out. If there are additional access requirements - for example, we may need to use a neighbour’s garden - we will discuss these with you so arrangements can be made.
On the day, we come with all our professional equipment and will start work promptly. Once all the work is done, we will clean and carry away all debris including logs, sawdust, foliage and removed branches.
Your garden or commercial plot will be left clean and tidy with healthier and more attractive trees.

Unless you are working on a very small tree, we advise against pruning trees yourself. A qualified professional will be able to assess the requirements, and ensure cuts are made that will maintain the tree’s health and avoid causing dangerous issues.
